PIA Participates at the 2017 ZITF

The Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) participated at this years international trade fair. The Authority focused on raising awareness on the mandate of PIA, the importance of pensions and insurance and rights and obligations of pension scheme members and insurance policy holders. The Authority also conducted awareness programmes at four (4) schools in Ndola namely, Kansenshi Secondary School, Ndola Girls Technical School, Masala Secondary School and Dominican Convent School. 

2017 Financial Literacy Week Awards

The National Organising Committee of the Financial Literacy Week Awards held the Governor’s Financial Literacy Week Awards ceremony on 30th may 2017. 

In his remarks, Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) Registrar, Mr. Martin Libinga said financial education remains one of the key cornerstones in the development of the financial sector and Zambia has over the last years made strides in this regard.

Hon. Mutati Calls on Insurance Sector to Double Contribution to GDP

Finance Minister Honourable Felix Mutati has called upon the insurance industry to double its contribution from the current less than 1.5% to 3%. Speaking during the official opening of the 2017 Insurance Conference in Livingstone, the Minister of Finance said insurance companies needed change the current business model and increase its contribution to GDP.

“Our target should be to double our contribution to the GDP and the insurance Bill is one step in that direction,” said Hon Mutati.

Status of Pensions Industry in Zambia

The Pensions and Insurance Authority wishes to update the public on the status of the pensions industry in Zambia.  The pensions industry has remained stable and over the past five years, the net pension’s assets have increased from K3.6billion to K5.9billion with a total membership of 109,734 as at 31st December 2016. Currently, we have 242 registered pension schemes managed by various registered Fund Managers and Administrators.
